Although our energy reservoir is unique, there are common causes of energy loss as well as solutions to increase its energy.
It is also true that some times of the year are more energy-intensive than others. That being said, it is available to everyone to take care of themselves, to take care of their energy tank.
Easier said than done?
Let’s take a look at three causes of energy loss, some food for thought and two solutions for more energy.
Possible Cause of Energy Loss #1: Being Constantly on the Move
Attacking emergencies and dealing with multiple situations can be very exciting. However, in the long run and on a recurring basis, such intensity creates impacts on your energy…
It’s that by dint of being on the move, you can forget the most important thing: you anticipate less because you have less perspective. You anticipate the impacts of your actions less, you have less perspective on situations.
Examples:
- At work, your schedule is more than full. You work overtime. You eat at your desk or always have business lunches. In short, never a break.
- At home, you have family, household chores, activities, etc. In short, never a personal moment.
- Your social life is full, every night of the week you have an activity and spend the weekends doing activities too. In short, “rest”, in action.
In fact, you’re “too” on the move for yourself when you can’t be alone, or you don’t know what to do when you have moments when nothing is planned. The lack of hindsight, or perspective on your actions, can generate negative thoughts and emotions towards oneself and others.
Some food for thought:
- Why am I in a hurry?
- What am I fundamentally trying to satisfy?
Solutions? There are some at the bottom of the article.
Possible Cause of Energy Loss #2: Letting Things Go (Too Much)
If you’re constantly on the move, it doesn’t mean that you don’t let the important things go (too much). Letting things go too much usually creates a general malaise in relationships.
Some food for thought?
- Are you too patient in a situation?
- Do you let go of your health, your hobbies, your happiness?

Possible Cause of Energy Loss #3: Neglecting Your Personal Life
If you work a lot, don’t exercise every day, sleep less, don’t eat healthy, don’t regularly make time for what’s important to you, you’re neglecting your personal life.
Imagine that your body is your vehicle: it needs maintenance, gas, cleaning to function properly, care! For your vehicle, it’s easy, you can repair it in the garage, or buy another one. Less obvious with your body…
If you have worries, anxiety, and don’t take care of your mental health enough, it’s the same thing: you won’t succeed if you’re sick.
Some examples of problems that can occur if you neglect your personal life:
- health problems;
- relationship problems;
- sleep problems;
- difficulty managing emotions.

Food for thought:
- If what you are experiencing is temporary or circumstantial, when do you expect the situation to improve?
- What would your daily life be like if you didn’t neglect your personal life?
Solution #1 to fulfill your need for energy: Know how to recognize and set your limits
Recognizing your limitations
This involves stopping and taking stock. How well are you doing in the different spheres of your life? What limits are you pushing?
Setting limits
- Learn to name and express your boundaries, before it’s too late or you’ve accumulated too much emotion or stress.
- Ask yourself if you understand what other people want? Your boss’s expectations (delivery dates, quality, etc.) Or the expectations of your spouse or your family. Maybe you’re just overdoing it!
Clarity is the solution to many ills!
Solution #2 to fulfill your need for energy: Do more of what you love
Using your strengths, your interests, moving towards your aspirations gives you energy
- At work, does your role allow you to do what you love and do what you’re good at?
- Do you have time for your passions, your relationships, taking care of yourself?
Try to figure out how to incorporate at least ONE thing you like into your daily life or a few times a week. If it’s once a week that works for you, that’s great, as long as you add something.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you need energy, find the balance between action, contemplation and make sure you have clarity as well as being able to set your limits.
