The butterfly effect is the theory that the flapping of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil can cause a tornado in Texas.

That is to say that the impact of a very small thing (a butterfly’s wing flap…) can create a grandiose effect (a Tornado) very far from us (a continent separates them).

Do you ever say to yourself a sentence similar to:

  • I don’t know what to do.
  • I do everything I can, and it still doesn’t work.
  • I can’t help it.
  • My efforts are worthless.
  • What can I do to change my environment?

Let me give you proof that you are completely wrong.

The proof

Through my work, I am constantly in contact with people who want to change something. They want to have a better impact on their environment to benefit from it, to be more satisfied, to earn more money, to improve their balance, etc. Everyone has their reasons.

Examples:

  1. This manager who did not see how to act differently and who found himself helpless and without tools when he had a clear warning from his boss on points of improvement. With some communication techniques and practice, he decreased his stress, improved his working relationships, and without realizing it his efforts changed the atmosphere of the company. Even his boss has changed some behaviors. Isn’t that a beautiful butterfly effect?
  2. This entrepreneur who has understood how to communicate better by respecting his personality, his values and adapting to his employees and colleagues. He has improved the mobilization and engagement of his team, and this has had an effect on his clients. Isn’t that a beautiful butterfly effect?

I constantly have evidence like that.

Again, I’m not asking you to take my word for it, but to test it.

In action!

True to my habit at the beginning of the year, I invite you to look ahead and take action with an exercise.

  1. Choose a word that will color your year.
  2. Enter the definition of your words. What does it mean to you?
  3. To make this word very concrete, associate it with facts and examples.
  4. Indicate who can help you. (Alone we go faster. Together we go further.)

Welcome to my kitchen

It’s my annual routine.

Not bad, right? I love this moment when, alone, I take a step back and let my creativity run wild with a glass of champagne 🙂

Here is my personal exercise as an example

  1. Word: Development
  2. Definition: Reaching as many people as possible
  3. Concrete: A new publication, An increase in mandates that bring together several people, An overall increase in my visibility
  4. Help: My publisher, my clients, my network, you.

Taking the exercise further

Take a first step in this direction now.

To remember

Make changes inside of you, and you’ll have an effect all around, and bigger than you can imagine.

What flapping of wings will you initiate?

Did you know that my blog subscribers who include their mailing address in their profile receive a greeting card in the mail every year with an exercise like this one? See the example in the photo of my kitchen table!
